Design & modeling.
-Planning-

-Drafting-

The concept sketch and blueprints were designed by me in procreate.
-Modeling-

Using the curve tool to draw out the panels.

This process was used to create/ connect all of the different body panels.

These tools were used to smooth/ warp large sections of panels in order to correct any blemishes/ deviations from the initial blueprints.

This workflow was used to simplify the UV'ing process and to group smaller details to "parent panels."

One of my biggest challenges earlier on was organization. This was solved by cleaning up the directory, getting rid of duplicated geometry immediately after concluding it is no longer needed and correctly grouping geometry together. This was the first project I undertook with such complexity which forced me to turn organization into a habit.
The biggest problem I had later on in this project was a CPU bottleneck. This is a very detailed model, so it was expected. In order to combat this, I needed to plan decisions in more detail. For example, I remember making a mistake with an edge loop and it took 3 hours to correct because every change took 5-15 minutes to update. After this, I began working on separate assets in different project files and importing the OBJ’s to the master file. In the event that I needed to make changes to the main model, I would plan 5-10 minutes prior to each action in order to save time.
As a result of breaking tasks down into chunks and the heavy amount of planning required to create this model, there would be times throughout this project where I would lose my footing completely. I remember spending 2 hours working on the wheels and, upon going back into the main project and importing the wheel OBJ, I needed an hour to remember how the project fit together again. I chalk this up to experience. My project was organized obsessively; however, the scale and complexity of this specific project would have been naively ambitious if I did not succeed in the end.
